Bringing together over 15 years of experience working across refugee and post-conflict contexts, international arts and community projects, research consultancy, filmmaking and creative practice, my work sits at the intersection of storytelling, voice, social impact, and embodied practice.
As an academic researcher and film director, I have published books and chapters exploring ethics, voice, motherhood, and documentary practice, alongside producing programming for UK broadcasters, directing award-winning independent films, and developing digital tools and research initiatives that support charities and communities.
My work with refugee communities has centred on the under-representation of mothers’ experiences of displacement, peace-building and examining questions of voice, agency, and the ethics of media storytelling. This research has produced publications, such as, Strangers, a book developed from a year-long drama therapy project with twelve Syrian refugee mothers living in Shatila Refugee Camp, Beirut. Combining a co-created script with critical reflections on the process, the book explores maternal authority, displacement, and the efficacy of drama therapy training in the context of trauma and PTSD.
Working as a television producer and directing independent feature documentaries such as About a War, developed practice and research that centres on the ethics of interviewing and vocal agency during the interview encounter. My PhD at the University of Surrey and chapter published in the upcoming Oxford Handbook of Media and Vocality centres on how interviewed voices are co-produced and power relations during the interview encounter are not fixed but instead fluid and changeable.
Alongside this, the other side of my work has been shaped by a 20-year yoga practice and a background in competitive sport, and endurance training. As a yoga teacher, these experiences have been brought together to develop accessible, dynamic practices beyond traditional yoga spaces, with a particular focus on supporting combat athletes through mobility, recovery, resilience, and long-term physical performance.
